How to choose a good video/photographer? (part 1)

How Choosing A Good Event Videographer / Photographer.

Most people may not be too concerned about this question, or even think about it. Based on personal research and experience, brides-and-grooms-to-be seems to have little idea that choosing a wrong photographer can and will lead to a high dissatisfaction and a lifetime regret. Nothing can be done if the recorded video turns out to be fuzzy, the voices are unclear, or the colours of the recorded events are greyish and faded. The most regrettable moment is when the photographer missed the significant moments throughout the wedding event, such as the solemnisation (nikah), the walk towards the wedding dais and so on.

Throughout the wedding festivities, a precarious balance between staged and spontaneity is achieved. Elegant portraits and family group photos are snapped instinctively to ensure the inclusion of fun and festive atmosphere. The rest of the time is spent unobtrusively stealing the candid moments that will lasts a lifetime - a mother‘s teary grin, a child’s hug, a tender look between the two centre stars of the event, and a lot more...

We would like to suggest that you consider the following criteria when evaluating and ultimately selecting your wedding videographer / photographer:-

1 A good videographer /photographer should have a high quality camera with a sufficient knowledge on how to use it. He should know how to set up a good visual and the right audio level, to ensure a clear, significant and good colour resolution.

2 A good videographer /photographer should possess an expertise in handling the lighting equipments to enhance the visual effects of the captured photographs and videos.

3 A good videographer /photographer should be creative in recording video or capturing photos, by experimenting with different angles.

4 Most importantly, make sure you watch the preview of your wedding photos/videos to gauge the quality of the final results that you are to receive later.

In choosing the right videographer, we suggest that you use the criteria below when evaluating the sample videos provided:-

1 Does the sample video have an interesting storyboard? This is important because without an interesting plan on the video footage, the audience will easily feel bored.

2 Does the video/photos have a creative finishing touch, in term of the best song choice, manipulative effects and also interesting visual setting?

3 Does the videographer/photographer provide a variety of examples which is equivalent to your occasion and suitable to your style? A typical Malay wedding ceremony consists of different events and settings - a solemnisation ceremony may be held at home or the mosque, taken in different styles, be it in the hotel/house or garden and much more.

4 Does the videographer provide extra features in the video, such as chronological events of the couple from their childhood until they meet and fall in love? What about footage of the wedding video, which may include best wishes from their closed ones? And the bottom line is, are the extra features part of the package price, or does the client have to pay extra?

How much do you have to spend for a wedding videographer/photographer service?
Normally, the quoted final price will depend on your requirements. Most videographers/photographers provide several packages with are priced accordingly. It shall ultimately depend on how important and meaningful you want your wedding videos and photos to be, not just for you, but also your next generations.

Remember...your wedding visual records are the most important purchase you can make to immortalize your momentous, once-in-a-lifetime event. Don’t be too choosy for the price!! Always pay the highest attention to the offered quality. Often couples make the mistake of choosing a wedding photography and videography service based on the price alone. In the end, you shall get what you pay for. It is wise to keep your budget in mind when selecting a photographer, but it should not be an excuse not to do your homework and evaluate the quality and professionalism of the photographer. Remember, you will have to live with the results of your decision. If you trust your wedding memories to somebody with a recognized reputation and highly proven professional skills, you are more likely to be satisfied and happy with the outcome.
